Are there promises to the nation of Israel still to be fulfilled?
When it comes to understanding the events of the end-times, many people look at promises that have been made and are understood as not having been fulfilled yet. As a result, they understand and interpret scripture in light of the need for these promises to be fulfilled by God.
What are some general areas of the promises of God, especially to Israel?
Genesis 12:1-3; 13:14-17; 19:9 Exodus 27:19-21; 28:35-43; 29:27-30; 30:19-21
Exodus 31:14-18 Leviticus 6:14-18; 6:19-23
2 Samuel 7:13-16
The promises of God, especially with respect to Israel deal with the land, descendants, and worship of God. In particular, worship focuses upon the priesthood of Aaron and the keeping of the Sabbath. Also of particular note is that the sacrifices and the work of the priesthood are to be “unto Aaron the priest and unto his sons by a statute for ever” indicating the expected eternal work of worship.
Are there promises of land yet to be fulfilled?
Psalm 37:28-29 Isaiah 32:16-18; 60:15-21
Jeremiah 3:12-15; 7:5-7; 25:5-9 Daniel 12:1-3
Joel 3:20 Micah 4:7
John 6:51 Revelation 21:23-27
God made promises of a restored land to Israel. Jesus, being the bread from heaven, is the sustenance that comes from being in the land. There is nothing in the scriptures that precludes a return to the land that is Israel. Apart from Christ as the king, however, the possession of the land must be temporary. The land belongs to Christ as the rightful king and the restored land under King Jesus will be inhabited only by Christians, those who make up the church.
Are there promises of seed and kingdom yet to be fulfilled?
Isaiah 9:6-7; 45:17; 51:11-12 Jeremiah 31:35-37; 32:36-41
Ezekiel 37:21-28 Daniel 2:43-45; 7:18
Hosea 2:17-20 Luke 1:30-33
Romans 9:4-8; 11:1-6 Hebrews 1:8
1 Peter 1:22-25 1 John 2:17
Galatians 3:26-29 Ephesians 2:10-16
Revelation 1:5-6 Acts 1:4-8
God made promises of a restored people (seed) of Israel under a Davidic kingdom. That kingdom is identified has having been restored under Christ as the Messiah king. Although having a restored kingdom under Christ as king does not absolutely rule out some sort of earthly kingdom, the kingdom must be comprised of those who by faith have acknowledged Jesus as the rightful heir and king. Ultimately then, this means that the cannot be a restored kingdom for Israel without them becoming part of the church. At this point then, the kingdom would be a Christian kingdom and not a Jewish kingdom. It must be comprised of all who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, which is the church.
Are there promises of worship yet to be fulfilled?
1 Samuel 2:31-35 Psalm 110:4
Ezekiel 41:1-26; 42:13-14; 43:18-27 Zechariah 6:12-15
Hebrews 5:6; 6:18-20; 7:1-9; 7:17-28; 10:11-14
Revelation 4:9-10; 5:13-14; 21:22
God made promises of a restored worship experience. It entailed the temple and the temple sacrifices. Jesus is the ultimate and final High Priest. He is also the ultimate and final sacrifice. The restoration of the temple and temple sacrifices are thus fulfilled in Christ as the temple and as the temple sacrifice.
2 Corinthians 1:20 – The promises of God are fulfilled in Christ!!!
